On October 18th of 2013, Karen Dilworth, a devout Catholic and certified dental assistant, was involved in a traumatic, nearly fatal automobile accident. She spent nearly seven weeks in the hospital, much of it on life support. She slipped into a coma. Her multiple injuries included broken bones that required metal rods, plates, screws, and pins to keep her right arm, wrist, hip, leg, ankle, foot and ten fractured ribs together. She would also suffer from a punctured lung from this event. She spent some time in a coma.
The policeman who was on the scene of the crash thought for certain that she would pass away shortly after being admitted into the hospital. This was not the case however, as Karen proved to be a determined fighter, one who would eventually pull through, waking from her coma and beginning the long road to recovery that ensued from such a traumatic wreck.

Karen Dilworth’s struggle for survival was not over when she got out of the hospital, as she would spend the next three plus months going through rigorous and extensive physical and mental rehabilitation to get the use of her body and mind fully back together. While her physical damage was substantial, her mental one was just as bad. As with many traumatic events, Karen found herself having difficulties with memory, as well as the use of her motor skills. She spent three months relearning those things we often take for granted: things as simple as moving her arms to feed herself, as well as overcoming all of the mental trauma associated with her crash. Karen Dilworth faith in God helped sustain her. After a long and hard road though, she made a remarkable recovery.
